WithThe Bachelorseason 29nearing its big finale, it’s becoming increasingly clear that Grant Ellis wasn’t ready to be the show’s star. The 31-year-old day trader and former basketball player made his television debut duringThe Bacheloretteseason 21. When Jenn Tran eliminated him before hometown dates, producers announced Grant as the franchise’s next male lead. Expectations were high for Grant, but, looking back, there were signs all along.

The truth is, Grant didn’t stand out during Jenn’s season either. He always seemed like a nice enough guy, he just lacked a certain “X factor” quality, as well as a decisive nature, which aBachelorlead requires. Still, hopes were high when Grant kicked offThe Bachelorseason 29and greeted his 25 single women. As the season drags on, Grant continues to beone of the more disappointing franchise leadsin recent memory.

The Bachelor Season 29’s Grant Ellis looks somber.

Grant Sent Home Some of His Early Front Runners

He Changed His Mind Wildly

From the start ofThe Bachelorseason 29, Grant seemed unsure of himself. He gave his first impression rose to 27-year-old Alexe Godin, then seemed to immediately forget about her. He gave one of his hometown dates toThe Bachelor’s Zoe McGrady, 27, who had barely seemed to notice before. His wildest swing was when he eliminated 31-year-old Dina Lupanco, whom he seemed to favor. It’s one thing to be open-minded, butGrant never seemed to know what he wanted.

Grant Doesn’t Know Who To Choose

Could He Walk Away Alone?

With the finale on the horizon, Grant’s remaining women are Zoe, 28-year-old client service associate Juliana Pasquarosa, andThe Bachelor’s Litia Garr, 31, who’s a venture capitalist. Though he could choose any of them, hecould easily walk away without handing out his final rose. The Bachelorseason 29 trailer, whichBachelor Nationposted to YouTube, ends with Grant waffling during the final rose ceremony. When host Jesse Palmer asks him if he’s ready to make his choice between the final two women, Grant says, “The truth is, I don’t know.”

Grant Seemed Unprepared For The Experience

He’s Not Ready For Love

Athletic, attractive and successful, Grant seemed like the perfect choice forThe Bachelorseason 29, but he may not have been properly prepared for the experience. Part of the problem may be thatGrant isn’t ready to settle down and get married. He may want a wife and children, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to make such a major life-altering choice. He’s so terrified of making the wrong choice, thatGrant may walk away empty-handed.
