Puzzles are one of the classic mechanics featured across theSilent Hillfranchise, and theSilent Hill 2 Remakeis no different. TheCoin Puzzlein theWood Side Apartmentsnot only requires you to collect the proper coins to use, but it also hasseveral clever poemsyou’ll need to solve to finish it.
This guide is for theStandard difficulty settings. Other difficulty settings may result in other solutions.

After you’ve gathered thesilver Man/Knife, gold Woman/Cross, and bronze Snake/Flower coins, make your way to theReception roomwhere the Coin Puzzle box is hidden under a sheet. Remove the dirty sheet, andyou’ll see a poem at the top, prompting you to place the coins into the correct slots. Here is a guide to the solutions for all four poems.
The First Poem
The Maiden, The Flower, & The Man
The first poem sets the scene of a woman under a tree with a flower behind her. A man, however, approaches:
Three bright coins in the five holes be,

The wind from behind the Maiden doth blow,
And here comes the Man, so sleek and so fine,

in the pale moonlight his eyes doth shine.
The correct solution to this puzzle is to place theWoman in the center slot, underneath the image of the tree. Next, place the Flower in the far right slot, “behind” the Woman, as she faces left. Lastly, the Man goes into the far left slot, “entering” the scene from the left.
The Second Poem
A Blade, Afraid, Away
In the second poem, the man reveals a knife. This causes the woman to flee in fear, running towards the flower:
The man doth approach, his Blade now revealed,

Away from the man doth the Maiden flee,
Towards the Flower, away from the tree.
TheFlower coin stays in the far right slot.Flip the silver coin to the Knifeside, and move itone slot to the right(second slot from the left). Then, move theWoman one slot to the right(second slot from the right), next to the Flower.
The Third Poem
Death & Reflection
For the third poem, the woman dies, leaving behind her grave, which the man stands over. In place of the flower is now a serpent:
Where once grew a Flower, a venomous glee,

where once was a Maiden, but a stone doth be.
And over her Grave the Man doth remain,
his blade never met the vile Serpent’s vein.
This solution requires flipping each cointo its opposite side.First, you’ll need toflip the Bronze coinfrom the Flower to theSerpent, and leave it in thefar right slot.Flip the Gold coinfrom the Woman to theCross tombstone, and leave it in thesecond to the right slot.Flip the Silver coinback to theMan, andmove it to the center slot.
The Fourth Poem
Who Do You Blame?
The final poem lists the three actors of the story:the Man, the Maiden, and the Serpent. However, it asks you tomake a choice: who carries the blame for what happened?
The Beast who its teeth in her flesh doth bore,
Now unto you falls a grievous chore,
who carries the blame for what fate had in store?
For this puzzle, all you need to do ismove the coin to the top slotfor whoyou think is the cause of the woman’s death. Any of these options will successfully complete the puzzle, which will give you theApartment 201 Keyas a reward.
Be aware, though, that your choice may impact which ending you getin theSilent Hill 2 Remake, so read closely and think carefully about which you blame!
