Snow Whitehas broken a grim box office record for Disney in spite of some forward momentum. The live-action remake stars Rachel Zegler in the title role opposite Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. The movie’s premiere has come amid severeSnow Whitebacklashdue to controversies including the stars' opposing views on Israel and Palestine, the property’s depiction of dwarfism, and much more. While it debuted at No. 1 at the domestic box office, it earned a middling $42.2 million that weekend.
PerVariety, as of Sunday morning,Snow Whiteis projected to gross a 3-day total of $14.2 million by the end of its sophomore weekend at the domestic box office. This sees it stumbling down to No. 2 behindA Working Manwith a week-on-week drop of 66%, which isthe worst week 2 drop of any Disney live-action remake. It has bested the previous record-holder, which was 2019’sDumbo(-60.4%). It is also worse than notable Disney live-action disappointments includingCruella(-48.8%),Jungle Cruise(-54.8%), andHaunted Mansion(-61.7%).

However, at the same time, it has reached a global box office total of $143.1 million, which sees it racing pastBridget Jones: Mad About the Boy($125.8 million) andDog Man($130.8 million) to becomethe third highest-grossing movie of 2025 worldwide, behind justCaptain America: Brave New World($403.8 million) and the record-breaking Chinese animated movieNe Zha 2($1.896 billion).
What This Means For Snow White
It Will Struggle To Break Even
In addition to dropping almost six full percentage points more thanDumbo,Snow Whitehas fallen 25.6% more than the remake with the smallest drop, which is 2016’sThe Jungle Book(-40.4%). Below, see a breakdown of howSnow White’s week 2 drop compares to all of the previousDisney live-action remakesthat were released in domestic theaters (not counting sequels, reimaginings, or prequels such asMufasaandCruella):

Additionally, while theSnow Whitebox officehas grown to a degree that it has landed among the year’s other blockbuster tentpoles, its enormous budget still presents it with a potentially insurmountable problem. The movie reportedly cost roughly $250 million, whichmost likely means that its break-even point is somewhere around $625 millionor more. At its current trajectory, it may not even hit the $250 million milestone, which would see it closing its theatrical run at a huge loss for Disney.
Our Take On The Snow White Box Office
Disney Has More Promising Remakes Coming Soon
AlthoughSnow Whiteseems doomed to be a disappointment,Disney will most likely rebound quite soon with their upcoming slate of live-action remakes.Lilo & Stitchis due in May, followed byMoanain July 2026, and both have the potential to become major blockbusters thanks to their beloved source material and general lack of controversy. While this success may not ultimately extend to in-development remakes such asHercules,Bambi, orThe Aristocats, this week 2 drop is not necessarily a death knell for the subgenre.
