Sony’s newest update to thePlayStation 5has left many fans confused and frustrated as it removes the ‘Resume Activity’ option from the menu. Over a month ago, players woke up to find that the ‘Resume Activity’ option was gone after the update had changed the Activity Cards on the menu.
The decision seemed to have come out of nowhere, leaving most fans baffled at best and angry,as there was no communication about why this removal was made or if it was even intentional. With the release of the newest patch, however, it appears Sony has permanently removed the option and left multitudes of fans enraged.

PlayStation 5 Seemingly Permanently Removes Resume Activity Button
Players Now Can Only Access Main Menu From Activities
Zarmeena KhanatPlayStation Lifestylenoted that when she turned on her PlayStation 5 after the latest patch was released, a patch that was meant to improve activities, the ‘Resume Activity’ button was still gone. This solidified the idea that its removal was no mistake on Sony’s part.DunnoMouseon Reddit stated, “I don’t understand for the life of me why you would just randomly remove a quality of life feature that was already there, there’s just no good reason to do so.”
Are you going to purchase the PlayStation 5 Pro?
After months of rumors that it was in the works, Sony has officially confirmed that the PlayStation 5 Pro will be launching in November 2024, with promises of a deep-learning image upscaling system entitled PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, fast-ray tracing performance that’s double the speeds of the base PS5 to support 4K resolutions, and 2 TB internal SDD storage unite. Despite these various upgrades, though, I don’t think I’ll be purchasing the PS5 Pro anytime soon, not only as an optical disc drive has to be purchased separately, but also because the base console’s cost is $700 USD, a steep request when I already own an Xbox Series X and Nintendo Switch and have a backlog of games there.
There were also comparisons to Xbox’s “Quick Resume”, a popular feature for Xbox users. Asbotte-la-botteobserved, “The fact that the PS5 did not have a completely functional copy of Quick Resume, and that they now have even removed the incomplete version, is ridiculous.“Most of the frustration was centered around Sony removing the feature as opposed to fixing its bugs and issues, especially when it was a selling point for the console in the first place.

There Needs To Be Open Communication Between Sony And Players
Since the removal of the option appears to be permanent, and with no official comment from Sony, fans are rightfully frustrated. ‘Resume Activity’ is a staple option in this day and age of gaming, and taking that away feels like a step backward in development. While multiple users and defenders noted that the option was glitchy or would take a lot of development and time to keep it up and running, that argument falls short when compared to Xbox.
As multiple users pointed out, Xbox has already perfected this exact option, so it’s confusing as to how Sony could just abandon it. Open communication is a definite tool Sony could use right now to realign themselves with their gamers, and perhaps can even smooth over any feelings of anger or discontentment. While removing the feature from thePlayStation 5may have logical reasoning behind it, leaving people in the dark has the potential to turn a frustrating situation into something worse.
