InStar Warscanon, the Sith have always stood as the ‘ultimate evil’ in the galaxy, as they tap into the dark side of the Force and have been shown to crave nothing but power through violence and death. The Sith are sadistic, angry Force-wielders, and are often the result of Jedi who have ‘gone bad’. However, that’s just how they’re portrayed most of the time, as the Sith are much more than just ‘evil Jedi’. In fact, one Sith in particular provesStar Warscan push Sith so much further than it does.
InDarth Vader#22 by Charles Soule and Giuseppe Camuncoli, Darth Vader is in possession of the mask of Darth Momin, a long-dead Sith whose essence is still clinging to the mortal world through his helmet. Anyone who wears the mask gets possessed by Darth Momin, and through the hosts he claims in this story arc, Momin helpsVader design his fortress on Mustafar. However, before construction begins, readers are given Darth Momin’s entire backstory, where it’s revealed that this particular villain is decidedly unique inStar Warscanon.

Before Darth Momin became a Sith, he was a troubled boy who would mutilate small animals (including his family pet) and use their corpses to make works of art. As he grew older, Momin began killing people to satisfy this dark desire, and would even parade his ‘artwork’ in his hometown for all his neighbors to see. Momin was imprisoned for these atrocities, but not for long, as a Sith Lord heard of him and decided to take him on as their apprentice. Now, this artistic psychopath was a powerful Force-user, and as a Sith, he designed his ‘masterpiece’.
Darth Momin created a massive superweapon with the ability to wipe out an entire city. While not themost impressive weaponStar Warshas ever featured, this one is perhaps the most terrifying, as its destructive potential only scratched the surface of what it was built for. Darth Momin’s plan was to threaten a random city with this weapon, and the moment before the city’s complete destruction, he’d use the dark side of the Force to freeze the residents in time, trapping them in a state of perpetual horror. This would be Momin’s ultimate masterpiece.

Darth Momin Proves Not All Sith are Just ‘Evil Jedi’
Darth Momin isn’t Angry or Hateful like Most Other Sith in Star Wars
Too often inStar Warsare Sith simply ‘evil Jedi’. Darth Vader, Count Dooku, and even Kylo Ren were allJedi who fell to the dark side. That gives the impression that that’s all the Sith are, but in fact, that couldn’t be further from the truth. A true Sith has nothing to do with the Jedi at all, as they are defined by their commitment to the dark side, not their corruption from the light. And, in terms of commitment to the dark side, one couldn’t hope to find a better Sith than Darth Momin.
Darth Momin saw the dark side as the ultimate cosmic ‘audience’, and wanted to pay tribute with his artwork. And freezing millions of lifeforms in a moment of utter horror forever was his idea of the ultimate tribute to the dark side, as well as his masterpiece. Darth Momin committed acts of atrocity not to gain power or because of some vendetta against the Jedi. He did it to please the dark side of the Force, which is a fascinating motivation thatStar Warsshould explore further with other Sith characters.

Darth Momin isn’t the Only Sith who Values Art
Star Wars Legacy’s One Sith Fostered Artists Like Darth Momin
Darth Momin honors the dark side through his twisted artwork, which is a decidedly unique take on aStar Warsvillain. However, he isn’t the only Sith to do this. InStar Wars Legacy#17, Darth Talon is attempting to convince Cade Skywalker to join the One Sith, explaining that they aren’t just an ‘evil cult’, but an actual culture. Talon shows Cade a piece of artwork that a member of the One Sith created. This Sith artist was so pleased with his work that he asked his apprentice to kill him in front of it, so that he could become a part of his creation through the dark side forever.
Star Wars Unlocked Darth Vader’s Maximum Power in 2024, Turning Him into a Living Superweapon
Darth Vader is an immensely powerful Force-user in Star Wars, but he’s never been stronger than he was in 2024, as he became a living superweapon.
Artistic motivation for committing oneself fully to the dark side is much more fascinating than seeing another Jedi falling to corruption and becoming a Sith. It’s also more interesting than a Sith simply being an angry, hateful, power-hungry villain. While this isn’t to say that Star Wars needs more ‘Sith artists’, these examples do speak to the fact thatStar Warscan push the Sith so much further than it does, and Darth Momin alone proves it.
