Star Warssubtly confirmed a brutal connection betweenLeia Organaand her mother, Padmé Amidala—one that Leia herself was aware of—but it has yet to be shown inStar Warsmovies and TV shows. Padmé’s death is one of the saddest tragedies inthe entireStar Warstimeline. Not only did her death bring an end to one ofStar Wars’best characters, but it also meant that Luke and Leia would never know their mother.

What made this disruption tothe Skywalker family treeeven more devastating was thatStar Warsmovies and TV shows never revealed whether Luke and Leia learned about their mother’s legacy. However, one canon story proved that not only did Leia know that her mother had been Queen of Naboo and a critically important Senator in the Clone Wars era, but also that she and her mother had a lot in common. Specifically, the canonStar WarsbookStar Wars: Bloodline, written by Claudia Gray, identified Leia’s thoughts about the connection between her mother’s history and her own.

You’ll Never Guess How This Random Star Wars Location Truly Connects Leia To Anakin & Padmé

This one Star Wars location proves that Leia Organa always remained connected to Anakin Skywalker and Padme, even if she never knew it.

Leia Recognized That Her Story Has So Many Parallels To Padmé’s

Bloodlineshockingly revealed that Leia did know about her mother after all. In fact, Leia knew not only that her mother had been a queen and a senator but also that she had been present when Palpatine took power. This moment is one of the most memorable inStar Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, as Padmé delivered one of her most iconic lines,“So this is how liberty dies…with thunderous applause.”

Bloodlinetakes this one step further, though, indicating that, beyond just knowing parts of her mother’s history,Leia began to feel connected to Padmé because of their shared experiences. In the book, Leia thinks,“My mother watched the old Republic fall—is it my turn to see the New Republic crumble?“At the time, Leia’s fears were due to the increasing tensions within the New Republic itself, between two factions: the Centrists and the Populists. She had no idea that, soon enough, she would see the New Republic wiped out by the First Order.

How Much Did Luke & Leia Know About Their Mother?

AlthoughBloodlinedid indicate that Leia knew about Padmé and had done her own research to uncover what she could, it’s unclear to what extent Leia really knew her mother’s legacy. Yes, Padmé was a critically important character inStar Warsbecause she gave birth to two of the most influential characters in the franchise. However,Padmé was so much more than the mother of Luke and Leia and the wife of Anakin Skywalker.

At just 14 years old, Padmé not only ruled Naboo as Queen but also was willing to put her life on the line during the Battle of Naboo, even when she was told she should go hide. She refused, instead fighting alongside her people. This would have been incredibly brave no matter her age, but that she did it as such a young teen is even more impressive.

Padmé remained similarly honorable in the Senate, making sure to fight not only for Naboo but also for the entire Republic. In fact, during the Clone Wars, Padmé frequently advocated for peace, to the extent that she even collaborated with her Separatist friend, Mina Bonteri, to try and find common ground and bring an end to the war.Padmé was also smart enough to grow suspicious that the Republic had become corrupt and accurately predicted that it had been Count Dooku who ordered the attempt on her lifeinStar Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones.

Forget The Force, The Jedi Council’s Greatest Failure Was Not Listening To Padme

Although the Jedi Order made many mistakes in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, the worst decision they made was not listening to Padme’s wisdom.

Moreover, Padmé had believed there was still good in Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader long before Luke (or anyone else, for that matter) did. While Leia seems to have learned the basic history of her mother, it’s unlikely she knew about her incredible legacy to that extent. It’s also unclear how much Luke knew, although, presumably, Luke and Leia would have shared everything they found out about their mother with each other.

While Leia seems to have learned the basic history of her mother, it’s unlikely she knew about her incredible legacy to that extent.

Will Star Wars Ever Reveal How Leia Learned So Much About Padmé?

While it’s a comfort to know that Leia (and presumably Luke) did know about Padmé to a certain extent, hopefullyStar Warswill eventually uncover exactly how Leia learned about her mother and show the discovery on-screen. Although sadly Leia Organa actress Carrie Fisher sadly passed beforeStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the franchise will almost certainly need to re-cast her at some point. In fact, with projects likeThe Mandalorian & GroguandAhsokaseason 2 underway,Star Warsmay need to do this sooner rather than later.

Both projects are set duringthe New Republic era, when Leia was quite active; her continued absence would be difficult to explain away. In light of that, the story of Leia learning about her mother could still be shown on screen. Notably, whileBloodlinestated that Leia had acquired this information about her mother, it didn’t say how or from whom.

This story could be especially meaningful given it connects the mother and daughter who never met but would have been an incredible duo. Moreover, it could have even been Bail Organa himself who told Leia about Padmé, which would make this story even more profound. Hopefully,Star Warswill eventually bring this essentialLeia Organastory to the screen.
