Live-service mobile gameStar Wars Huntersis due to shut down its servers later this year, according to a new announcement on the official website. Released last year,Star Wars Hunterswas an online PvP shooter, in which four-player teams ofcharacters from throughout theStar Warsgalaxybattle it out in a series of arena maps. It received mixed reviews: though praised for its fun, fast-paced gameplay, it was widely criticized for its “rampant” microtransactions, includinginScreen Rant’s review.

According to the officialStar Wars Hunterswebsite, the final update will be released on April 15, withfull server shutdown to follow on October 1. Although the last content update is free and there will be no further in-app purchases after it’s released, refunds will not be provided to players who purchased its Arena Pass or in-game crystals. The announcement of its closure comes less than a year after its July 28, 2025, launch, and before the game’sPC release via Steam.

Hunters' Shutdown Timeline Explained

Although the final season ofStar Wars Hunterswill begin on April 15,the changes begin even earlier. On June 23, 2025,the fifth season ofStar Wars Hunterswill be extended by three additional weeks, so that its end date falls on April 15. Events and shop bundles from earlier in the season will become available again during this three-week extension. The idea is to give players who purchased this season’s Arena Pass extra time to rank up fully and collect all its rewards before the final season begins.

Is Star Wars Hunters F2P Or Pay-To-Win?

Star Wars: Hunters has been marketed as free-to-play, but with its currency packs and in-game purchases, some are skeptical it may become pay-to-win.

Next, as of April 15,Star Wars Hunters' final season will begin. This will introduce the new support character Tuya, who, unlike previous update content, will be immediately available to all players for free, regardless of whether they’ve purchased the Arena Pass or any other in-game content. In-app purchases will be disabled as soon as the season begins. Ranked leaderboards will continue as normal, and all arenas and game modes will be rotated over this six-month period. Finally,on October 1,Star Wars Hunterswill shut downits servers permanently.

No Refunds Will Be Issued For Star Wars Hunters Crystals Or Arena Pass

Microtransactions Will Not Be Refunded

Alongside its shutdown announcement,Star Wars Huntersalso put out an FAQ page to explain, among other details, thatin-app purchases will not be refunded. That includes Arena Passes -Hunters' version of the seasonal Battle Pass - and crystals, an in-game currency used to purchase a variety of different items.

It’s not what anyone wanted to hear, but it’sunsurprising for a game frequently criticized for its microtransactions. Although it was totally free-to-play at launch, with solely cosmetic items available for purchase with in-game currency and the Arena Pass, that changed over time. Eventually, the firstArena Pass-exclusive character, Aran Tal, was introduced. Of course, that practice will come to an end with the advent ofStar Wars Hunters' final season.

It’s hard to pinpoint just one reason whyHuntersis going offline. A dwindling player base, unaided by a Switch- and mobile-exclusive release, could be part of the issue. A series of delays and lack of communication about upcoming updates may also be to blame. Its ubiquitous microtransactions may have driven some players away, or, on the contrary, they may not have been enticing enough to convince players to purchase them. One way or another, it’s clearly not turning a profit for Zynga, and for that reason,Star Wars Huntersis shutting down.
