WhileStarfieldis a massive game in terms of the various planets and worlds on display, it’s fairly common that players will quickly lose interest instrutting around its barren worlds. Some are certainly more dense and filled with bizarre creatures, but thosewho want to see something specialwill need to take flight.

The image, which was taken in the Cheyenne System, sees the player’s vessel in orbit as the shadow of the sun moves over the world ahead of them. Given the sheer size ofStarfield, it’s easy to forget the number of features the game is constantly simulating;many players are likely unaware that eclipses even happen, proving that rare sightings do existif one is simply in the right place at the right time.

As mentioned above, one of the most common complaints aboutStarfieldis the world-building and exploration. While over 1,000 planets can be visited,most of them play out the same since they’re limited to just a few points of interest and dull combat encounters. Yet it’s worth remembering that much of space is (supposedly) empty and void of life, so while Bethesda may have neglected the “fun factor,” one could argue that the studio did a much better job of portraying a more realistic version of the future.
Those who do stick withStarfieldhave a much greater chance of encountering such a rare and beautiful event as the solar eclipse. Having it play out at random makes its discovery all the more exciting as most players will likely never see it. It also goes a long way in further immersing the player asit’s a reminder that the rest of the game exists beyond just the scope of their visor.
Was Starfield a success?
As someone who was extremely excited about Starfield before its release, I have to say I had trouble getting into the game. I understand it worked for a lot of players; I just found the load screens to be too frequent and couldn’t get into the flow because of it. I’d like to take another stab at it at some point and at least explore the campaign, as I thought the game was gorgeous aesthetically.
