Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, the hit Netflix series returned for season 4 in 2022, ending with Hawkins becoming ground zero for an Upside Down incursion into the real world.Stranger Thingsseason 5, which is still filming after entering production earlier this year, is set to pick up after a time jump, but behind-the-scenes photos from several months ago suggested that the show could also be flashing back to young Will’s time in the Upside Down.
Stranger Thingsexecutive producer and directorShawn Levynow takes to Instagram to share new behind-the-scenes photos from the show’s set, one of which supports the flashback theory. The second image in Levy’s carousel features the Duffer brothers, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, and an unidentified woman, but it’s what is in the background that’s most interesting.The image teases a return of the letter wall, which played an important role in season 1as Joyce (Winona Ryder) attempted to communicate with Will in the Upside Down.
The other images in the post, included above, feature Ryder and Maya Hawke as Robin, a mysterious red covering for what is likely an Upside Down scene, Levy on set, Brett Gelman as Murray Bauman, and performers in morph suits.
Stranger Thingsseason 5 doesn’t yet have a firm release date, but it is confirmed to arrive in 2025.
