Callum has been looking to tie the Huntley family to an old case involving the disappearance of a college studentnear their home but has so far come up empty. His cold case gets revived when an insider, Phoebe (Lexy Hammonds), offers to talk to him about the powerful family’s crimes. However, she goes missing before she has a chance to give him any substantial information. With no clue as to where Phoebe has disappeared to, Callum begins desperately trying to reach her but gets no response. The final scenes of season 2, episode 2 reveal that Phoebe has died.
After all, Quinn doesn’t want the world to find out about whatever the journalist will dig up about his very secretive family and will do everything in his power to stop him.

Callum assaults him and gets arrested for battery.

William Huntley Might Be Involved In Emma’s Death
WhileSurfaceseason 1 focuses on what happened before Sophie lost her memories, the sophomore season offers a new mystery, that of Emma Antoine-Day, Sophie’s mother. So far, the clues regarding Emma’s death have been scarce, but the second episode sheds a little light.Emma’s cause of death is said to be “unclassified” on her death certificate, which is undeniably strange. Since Sophie doesn’t know what it means, she contacts Callum, who begins to dig into it.

And Callum finds out a lot of interesting things about this. When he gets in touch with the coroner’s office,Callum discovers that the doctor didn’t do an autopsy report, which is why the cause of Emma’s death wasn’t listed. Unfortunately, Matthew Lewis, the doctor in question, is dead, so he can’t offer any more information. Another clue is that there is very little information regarding Emma’s life, which in and of itself is telling because it points to someone having gone to a lot of trouble to erase it.
This discovery cements that William or at least one of the Huntleys had something to do with Emma’s death.
Since almost nothing about Lewis can be found on the internet, Callum’s workmate goes through the archives, which reveal that he used to be William Huntley’s doctor. Another thing that Sophie can’t decipher is the numbers she wrote on one of the newspapers she had before her accident. She eventually figures out that the numbers are coordinates, which point her to a forest very close to Huntleys' country house. This discovery cements that William or at least one of the Huntleys had something to do with Emma’s death.
What To Expect From The Next Episodes Of Surface Season 2
Sophie Will Continue To Look Into Her Mother’s Death
So far, season 2 has been offering crumbs but hasn’t really reached the center of the mystery. There are several things that the upcoming episodes will get to. With James now in England,the mystery serieswill have to delve into what happened to him during Sophie’s absence and why he followed her. Sophie and Eliza are not on speaking terms anymore, so Sophie will have to find a way to get her old friend to trust her again. And since Sophie has plans to visit the Huntleys' country house, the upcomingSurfaceepisodes will reveal what she finds when she gets there and how it ties into Emma’s death.
