Warning: SPOILERS ahead for the Teacup season 1 finale!Teacupstar Scott Speedman offers a deeper explanation on James' fate in the season finale, alongside what could happen with him in a potential season 2. Season 1 of the sci-fi horror series ended with thecharacters inTeacupmanaging to trap James (Speedman) in a freezer while Assassin was inside of him, putting sandbags on the cover to keep him inside. As the scene played out, it became clear that James was going to die alongside the alien, marking an emotional end to his storyline.

Speaking withScreen Rant,Speedman discussed the “redemptive role” James had inTeacup, with his story ultimately coming full circle when he died with Assassin possessing him. However, despite confirmation from showrunner Ian McCulloch that his character is dead, the actor is still pushing for a surprise return in season 2. He cites how, because he seemingly died without the audience seeing, and with Ellen (Kathy Baker) still on the farm, there’s a chance he can make a comeback. Check out what Speedman had to say below:

Masked Man in Teacup, Stephen King in It 2, and Melody Pendras in Archive 81

Scott Speedman:That’s the coolest part. We talked about it at the beginning, you know, it’s interesting where he started, you know, stepping out on his family, not just his wife, but his family. And then, we spent eight episodes not going out intentionally to win his family back, but by the thriller circumstances of the piece, he’s forced into this redemptive role. And he really goes there and gets his family back, gets his wife back, and in that brings the audience back with him. So, that was really fun. I knew where it was going from the beginning when I signed on to do that show, so it was a great character in that way. But yeah, I mean, hopefully that we get to do more seasons on that, but yeah, we’ll see.

Scott Speedman:Ian is adamant that I am dead, yeah. [Laughs] Believe me, there was convincing going on, and I did not win those arguments. I think, in today’s world, you need to see the head getting chopped off. The way we did it? Yeah, we’ll see. I don’t know, but I love Ian so much. I’m so proud of what he did, and I think that arc is great, and if he wants to leave it where it is, that’s that.

Teacup Episode 4 Ending Explained

Scott Speedman:[When asked about Ellen still being on the farm] Oh, hey, that’s what I said. [Chuckles] I said, “You’re leaving characters there.” I don’t know, we don’t see his head getting [cut off] or his heart getting [torn] out of his body. So who knows, the audience will have maybe some ideas.

What Scott Speedman’s Statement Means For James In Teacup Season 2

Could Assassin Come Back With Him?

James was trapped in the freezer to ensure Assassin wouldn’t be able to escape, effectively suffocating the Chenoweth patriarch and trapping the alien with his body. However, the story clearly isn’t done yet, withTeacupseason 2getting teased during the ending, when the group is saved by two mysterious strangers familiar with McNab (Rob Morgan). While everyone except Ellen is outside the farm, they’re still intent on traveling to Belknap Mountain in New Hampshire to find Harbinger’s machine, meaning the dangers are far from over.

New Stephen King-Approved Show Is Terrific To Watch After Netflix’s Canceled 87% Horror From 2 Years Ago

Netflix sadly canceled an 87% Rotten Tomatoes horror show 2 years ago, but a new Stephen King-approved series seems like its perfect replacement.

While it appears definitive that Speedman’s character is dead,James' body was also not yet shown, meaning it’s possible he’s somehow managed to survive. Even if he himself didn’t, Ellen opening up the freezer at some point could trigger Assassin to pass into her, making it so the original threat of season 1 will return. But, withTeacup’s McCulloch confirmingJames is dead, it seems the current major focus of the show is going to be on what happens now that all the surviving characters are out.

Our Take On James Possibly Returning In Teacup Season 2

It Would Be Interesting, But Unrealistic

While Speedman’s portrayal of James would make it interesting for him to somehow return, it seems unrealistic given just how tragically he was killed off in the season 1 finale.Bringing him back would potentially nullify the impact of his death, even thoughTeacupcould be improved by having either him or Assassin return. But, with the story expanding, it doesn’t seem like it’s in the cards, even though seeing him return could make for a very interesting way the story could continue.
