Balatro Is A Well-Deserving Winner
Setting A High Bar For The Next Canadian Game Awards
WinnerBalatrotook the gaming world by storm when it released last year, and is well worth playing thanks to its unique gameplay. Described as a “poker roguelike” that really develops on classic deckbuilding mechanics, it’s hard not to see just what developer LocalThunk achieved with this wonderfully addictive indie gem.
What’s perhaps even more impressive than its gameplay is the fact that LocalThunk - from Saskatchewan, Canada - is the solo developer behindBalatro, making this GOTY win an even more impressive achievement for the relatively new creator. While we don’t know what’s coming next from LocalThunk, we hope we’ll see him again at the nextCanadian Game Awards.
