The GOG version ofSilent Hill 4: The Roomjust receiveda substantial update that restores content removed from the PC version. While the fourth mainline entry in theSilent Hillfranchise may be divisive among fans, it’s widely agreed that the PC version is the worst way to play the game. Fortunately, in its mission to preserve and improve older titles that are difficult to access on current devices, GOG has made some major improvements toThe Room, and the latest patch may be its most exciting yet.
PerPC Gamer, the update adds all the “hauntings” that were included in the PlayStation 2 version ofSilent Hill 4: The Roomthat never made it across to PC. At several points inSilent Hill 4, players will return to Henry Townshend’s apartment and witness a creepy cutscene as the evil of Silent Hill invades his home; The PC port included some of these moments but seven of the so-called “hauntings” were only available on PS2. Fortunately, the missing clips, which include the sink tap running blood and a wall full of dolls, are now accessible in the GOG version.

Silent Hill 4 Deserves More Love
It’s Great To See GOG Putting In The Work
GOG is doubling down on its efforts to preserve and reignite interest in older games. While it would be enough to simply make retro titles available in the store, the company often goes the extra mile by improving the original release, making it more approachable for modern audiences.Silent Hill 4: The Roommay not have been especially difficult to run, but the PC version was also known to be quite buggy: Fortunately, the latest update has squashed many of its more problematic glitches.
While it may not be asrevered asSilent HillorSilent Hill 2, the fourth game has developed a cult following for its twist on the franchise’s established tropes.Taking place largely inside an apartment in the city of Ashfield, Team Silent attempted to reinvent the gameplaywhile alsodelivering the tone and storyfans had come to expect from the series. Many believeThe Roomis too clunky for its own good and the constant switch between perspectives is jarring, but it’s undeniably an interesting experience.

Silent Hill 4: Why The Room Is Worth Revisiting
Now that Silent Hill 4: The Room has surprisingly arrived on PC, it’s the perfect time to play the survival horror game again - or for the first time.
GOG Is Doing Important Work
It’s Important To Recognize History
I adoreGOG’s dedication to video game preservation, not least of all because, without it, I would never have playedSilent Hill 4: The Room. The PlayStation 2 version is difficult to find so having it playable on PC, without mods or add-ons, is an absolute treat. It’s my personal favorite game in the series, and I’m eager to pick it up again andcheck out all those hauntingsI missed.
