The Night Agent Season 1 Recap: 10 Things You Need To Remember Before Season 2

The Night Agent Season 2’s Finale Starts With A Flashback Showing Jacob Monroe Meeting Future Presidential Candidate Hagan

Monroe essentially owns The Night Agent’s new POTUS

The Night Agent’sseason 2 finale “Buyer’s Remorse” reveals how Monroe and Hagan met eight years prior, with the latter having heard Monroe is a true power player behind the scenes. It appears Hagan’s political aspirations aren’t going so well due to controversial statements - but Monroe clearly has big plans for him. In the years that followed,Monroe molded Hagan into the perfect Presidential candidate. Naturally, Monroe isn’t doing this out of patriotism or the goodness of his heart - the broker will now have unlimited access to classified documents thanks to Hagan entering the Oval Office.

Tomas Bala

Given that Monroe has little regard for human life and was perfectly willing to allow Bala to unleash a chemical weapons attack on innocent people, giving him access to The White House would be a very bad thing. Still, “Buyer’s Remorse” indicates he and Hagan aren’t totally aligned. Eventhough Monroe has all but handed him the Presidency, Hagan shows resistance to the notion the broker ishisboss. This suggests there could be real tension between them whenThe Night Agentseason 3arrives.

How Jacob Monroe’s Case File Mission Linked To Hagan

Peter makes a deal with Monroe during The Night Agent season 2

Towards the end of the season, Rose (Luciane Buchanan) is kidnapped alongside the creator of a chemical weapon dubbed K.X. gas. The duo is then forced to create a new batch of K.X., which war criminal Viktor Bala (Dikran Tulaine) plans to unleash inside the UN building. With time running out,Peter (Gabriel Basso) makes a deal with Monroe: in exchange for breaking into the UN and stealing a certain file, Monroe will give up the location where Rose and the K.X. are being held.

Peter succeeds in stealing this file, even though he has no idea what’s on it. The final scenes ofThe Night Agentseason 2 reveal the truth: the file contained evidence that Presidential candidate Knox was involved in selling chemical weapons to Bala, which the warlord used on his own people. Bala planned his attack as revenge on the country, andMonroe used the UN file to blackmail Knox into dropping out of the race.

… Peter helped Monroe install a puppet President in the White House by taking this file.

So in a sense, Peter helped Monroe install a puppet President in the White House by taking this file.Part of the price of stealing the file also means Peter must work for Monroe from time to time, but Peter later confesses his theft to his boss Catherine (Amanda Warren) and is willing to face prison time instead. Catherine has something else in mind for her rogue agent though.

What Jacob Monroe’s Connection To Hagan Means For The Night Agent Season 3

Night Action will be going up against the President of the United States

The Night Agentperfectly laid the groundwork for season 3 with “Buyer’s Remorse,” which will pit Peter against the White House itself. It seems the next series will see him going undercover with Monroe, and trying to uncover how deep his ties to Monroe are. While Hagan might show signs of defiance, Monroe must have real dirt on the new President, and the broker will no doubt exert control over how the White House is run and twist events to his advantage.

As Catherine tells Peter, the real issue is Monroe will have access to everything that comes to the Oval Office, and he could sell that information to the nation’s enemies. That can’t be allowed to happen, but Peter and Night Action will need to tread carefully to avoid the wrath of the White House. It looks likeThe Night Agentseason 3 could become the most intense series yet, and that Monroe might become the show’s overarching villain.
