Jude Law explains why he is nervous about his debut in the upcoming TV showStar Wars: Skeleton Crew. The 51-year-old gained recognition for his lead role inThe Talented Mr. Ripley, and found success as a Hollywood leading man.Law plays the starring role inSkeleton Crew, a coming-of-age story in theStar Warsuniverse, with four children who get lost in the galaxy, and have to find their way back home. The show is set in thesame time period asThe Mandalorian, and takes place five years afterReturn of the Jedi.
Despite being highly-anticipated, Law admits to reservations about taking the role, and, in an interview withGQ, theSherlock Holmesactor reveals he was nervous to take the role of Jod Na Nawood, due to the sense of responsibility of stepping into a popular and important franchise. He also mentions that he is wary of haters within the fandom, and this made him tentative about choosing the role. Check out theCold Mountainstar’s comments below:

It makes me a little bit nervous, if I’m honest, in the same way that I felt a responsibility to really make sure Dumbledore had a heart and soul that was considered and true. It’s the same with this. I mean, there are haters everywhere, it seems nowadays, unfortunately. People have very acute opinions of this galaxy and how it should be handled. Obviously, you hope you’re going to get a majority of them on your side, and you’re aware that you may not win all of them over.
What Law’s Comments Mean For Star Wars
This Divisive Fanbase Seems More Divided Than Ever
Law’s comments, regrettably, are pretty accurate, withtheStar Warsfanbase as a whole seemingly more toxic and divided than ever before. Several recent projects have received intense backlash, and the announcement ofDaisy Ridley’s return for the upcomingStar Wars: New Jedi Order, was also met with criticism. It is understandable that Law would feel apprehensive about taking the role, particularly after appearing inThe Marvels, another movie (and franchise) that has been plagued by toxicity in its fandom.

With a franchise as iconic and popular asStar Wars, there is never going to be a project that satisfies everyone, and backlash is certainly a factor that is consistent with huge franchises, andSkeleton Crewcould well face a similar fate. Having appeared in theMCU and the Harry Potter franchise, Law should be well-versed in dealing with large-scale projectswhere the stakes are high, and there will be hope that he can navigateSkeleton Crew, and its reception, in the best possible way.

Our Take On Skeleton Crew
The Show Has A Chance Of Being Well-Received
I’m hopefulSkeleton Crewwon’t get the samebacklashThe Acolytereceived, especially as many of the cast are young, and intense criticism could halt their careers prematurely; similar to what happened to Jake Lloyd afterThe Phantom Menace. I think that ifSkeleton Crewdistances itself from theSkywalker Saga, it could be well-received, and could thrive as an expanded universe project that is not in danger of breaching canon. There will be hopes among Disney and the fanbase alike thatSkeleton Crewcan get theStar Warsfranchise back on track.
