One of the great things aboutStar Wars Rebelsis the many connections that are made to the originalStar Warstrilogy, but I can’t believe we’ve all been missing this one reference.Rebelsmainly follows the members of theGhostcrew as they work within theRebel Allianceto take down the Empire.Rebelsis one of the few instances inStar Warswhere we get to see an individual’s growth through their Jedi training inEzra Bridger.
One of the reasons whyRebelsis so beloved byStar Warsfans, myself included, is because it is so grounded in themes of found family and asks what someone would do for the ones they love. To me,Rebelsis the perfect show because it connects so many other aspects ofStar Wars. It brings back fan-favorite characters like Captain Rex and Ahsoka Tano, but it honors where they’ve been and blends their story with the original trilogy.Rebels' lightsaber duelsare especially entertaining because Jedi likeKanan Jarrusand Ezra Bridger are always going up against formidable foes.

Lightsabers Emit Green Sparks When Clashing
Even When We Don’t Think They Should
One of the coolest details we get to see throughoutRebelsis thatwhenever lightsabers clash with one another, green sparks are emitted, no matter the color of the lightsaber. The most common color clashes are Kanan Jarrus’ blue lightsaber and Ezra Bridger’s first lightsaber with the red blades of theImperial Inquisitorsor Darth Vader. However, there are othercolors of lightsabersseen throughoutRebels. Ezra Bridger constructs a green lightsaber for seasons 3 and 4, but we also see Ahsoka Tano’s twin white lightsabers, as well as theMandalorian Darksaber.
Star Wars Rebels Voice Cast - What The Actors Look Like In Real Life
Star Wars Rebels features an amazing cast of live-action and voice-acting all-stars, each who bring an added edge to Star Wars.
Usually, when red and blue meet, they form purple, but that isn’t the case when lightsabers clash inRebels. No matter the blade’s color, the sparks that emit are green. This is obvious when there are lightsaber duels in dark settings, such as theRebelsseason 2 finale “Twilight of the Apprentice.” While on the Sith planet Malachor, Kanan, Ezra, and Ahsoka come across three Imperial Inquisitors and Maul, which eventually concludes with an epic duel between Ahsoka Tano and her former master, Darth Vader.Because of Malachor’s dark scenery, the green sparks from the lightsabers are even more noticeable.

The “Twilight of the Apprentice” two-part finale included multiple lightsaber duels, including Kanan Jarrus, Ahsoka Tano, and Maul teaming up against three Imperial Inquisitors.
Lightsabers In The Original Trilogy Did The Same Thing
Rebels’ Homage to the Original Trilogy is Subtle
Going back to the first lightsaber duel seen in theoriginalStar Warsfilm (later retitledA New Hope), whenever lightsabers clashed, they sparked green. This effect can be seen when Obi-Wan Kenobi duels Darth Vader on the Death Star. It’s a small detail meant to be an homage inRebels, but it also creates continuity between the show and the original trilogy films, which take place only a few years after theRebelsseries finale.

It’s not entirely clear why lightsabers spark green, but we do know that the blade of a lightsaber is plasma and is powered by the kyber crystal inside the hilt. It’s plausible that when the plasma of two blades strikes each other, green sparks are normal, kind of like how when metal strikes metal, it emits red and orange sparks.Rebelsis one of my favorite shows because there’s always something new to discover, and the green lightsaber sparks are just another reason whyRebelscontinues to be one of the most connectiveStar Warstitles.
