As unveiled during Pokémon Day this year, a new series calledMega Evolutionswill be hitting thePokémon Trading Card Gamesoon. It’s been a while since Mega Evolutions appeared in the TCG, and The Pokémon Company has already been showing off new cards, including Mega Lucario ex and Mega Gardevoir ex. However, there’s a new Item card that could help make wins guaranteed when combined with the right card - and with the right amount of luck.

Mega ex cards are coming to thePokémon TCG, presumably becauseMega Evolution is returning inLegends: Z-Alater this year. That meansMega ex cards will likely phase out the regular ex cards that currently serve as powerhouses in theScarlet and Violetseries. In addition to the Pokémon Day reveal, card reveals have started to appear onPokémon.com, showing off the kinds of cards fans can expect when the new sets drop.

Pokemon TCG Premium Power Pro and Mega Lucario

Pokémon’s Premium Power Pro Card Offers Stackable Damage

30 Extra Damage For Fighting-Types, Up To 4 Times

One of thenew cards shown offis an Item called “Premium Power Pro,” a nice callback to similar cards that boost a Pokémon’s power to cause even more damage. This card boosts the attack of a Fighting-type Pokémon, allowing them to cause 30 more damage. However, the Premium Power Pro can be stacked up to four times, causing 120 additional damage(in standard rules, you can’t have more than four copies of a single card in one deck).

Pokémon TCG: Journey Together Build & Battle Box Review - A Nice Deck For Intermediate Play

The new Build & Battle Boxes for the the Pokémon TCG’s Journey Together set offer a nice deck for Level 2 gameplay, alongside four booster packs.

There are a few caveats here - the official site has a disclaimer that “cards shown in images are under development,” so this could be tweakedbefore theMega Evolutionsseries actually begins. Even if it isn’t, being able to use four “Premium Power Pro” cards at once would rely on luck, since decks have to be shuffled. But assuming you have enough luck, you could realistically cause 120 more damage - andwhen combined with Mega Lucario ex, the total damage of a single move can be massive.

Pokémon Journey Together Build & Battle box

Combined With Mega Lucario Ex, It’s Massive Damage Against Opponents

Up To 390 Damage In A Single Attack

Mega Lucario ex inMega Evolutionsis a Fighting-type, with two moves, “Aura Jab” and “Mega Brave.” The former causes 130 damage, which is nothing to laugh at, butthe latter ability causes 270 damage and requires only two Energy. Realistically, that makes it a powerful - and fairly easy - ability to use, with the only catch being that you can’t use the move again on your next turn. When paired with four “Premium Power Pro” cards, that damage can jump from 270 to 390.

This would make the Mega Lucario ex/Premium Power Pro combo pretty valuable in thePokémon TCG, and able to take down other (unmodified) ex cards in a single hit. It may not be the most heavy-hitting move of all time, but it’s certainly a viable option whenMega Evolutionsreleases. And considering Mega Lucario ex has 340 HP, it’d be hard for an opponent to defeat it before Mega Lucario ex could do the move again (albeit without all the “Premium Power Pro” cards).
