A promotional image forVenom: The Last Dancehas confirmed a significant detail about the army sent to Earth by theSony Spider-Man Universe’s latest arch-villain, Knull.Venom: The Last Danceis slated for releaseon October 25, becoming the fifthinstallment of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, and the final in Venom’s trilogy. Recent trailers have revealed that it aims to end with a bang, debuting a live-action adaptation of Marvel’s most significant big bad since Thanos in the MCU.

A recently unveiled promotional image posted by@thevenomsitevia X for the movie has now identifiedthe army that Knull will apparently send to pursue Venom as the Xenophage. The image is reportedly taken from official merchandise for the movie and shows the alien species roaring from behind the word “Xenophage” written in a graffiti-style font. This confirms prevailing suspicions about the species of the monstrosities seenfacing Venom in the trailers, which appear considerably different from the symbiotes Venom has faced thus far.

What Venom 3’s Aliens Being Confirmed As Xenophages Means

The Alien Species Hunt And Devour Symbiotes

Sony has not released much information aboutthe specific motivations of Knulland the Xenophage army he has sicked on Venom. Suffice it to say, however, that they will not be good for Venom or Eddie Brock, with trailer footage revealing that the Xenophages will be particularly antagonistic and likely one of Venom’s biggest challenges yet. Based on their aggressive behavior in theVenom: The Last Dancetrailer, it would seem thatthey will follow a similar MO to their comic book counterparts - which, put simply, is to devour symbiotes.

The main Xenophage to appear in Marvel Comics is called Phage, though it is unclear whether theVenom: The Last Dancetrailer depicts the same character.

Ironically enough for the brain-loving Venom,Xenophages in Marvel Comics specifically consider the brains of symbiote hosts to be a delicacy. Their habit is supported by the ability to detect and track symbiotes, making them a particularly effective tool for anyone looking to do the same. This could be why they have been sent to Earth by Knull, something that Venom confirms in the final trailer forVenom: The Last Dance.

“Now THAT Is An Avengers-Level Threat” - 10 Reasons Venom 3’s New Villain Is Perfect For The MCU

While Knull is coming to live-action in Venom 3, there are many reasons why he’s far more suited for the MCU (hopefully in the future).

Despite appearing decidedly more monstrous than their quarry in their typical form, Xenophages exhibit a similar ability to symbiotes to change their shape and size at will, allowing them to hide in plain sight. They also possess the ability to paralyze symbiotes with a specialized neurotoxin, which may explain why Venom is so fearful of the beast seen in the trailer. The Xenophages will be a significant challenge to Venom, but pale in comparison to the sheer power of Knull nonetheless.

Our Take On Venom 3’s Xenophages

They Will Be Tough But Beatable (Unlike Knull)

I think that the fact that Venom and Eddie are about to face the terrifying Xenophages in the same movie that Knull has debuted is a good sign. While they are fearsome and naturally predisposed to fighting and eating symbiotes, Xenophages aren’t unbeatable andcould comprise the first hurdle for Venom to overcome before Knull, now aware of Venom and other symbiotes' presence on Earth, launches his attack in earnest. Instead of having Venom come out on top twice, however, Knull’s main assault may very well kill Venom and/or Eddie.

Tom Hardy recently confirmed thatVenom: The Last Dancewill be his final Venom movie.

This is probably for the best, and would make sense regarding the subtitle forVenom: The Last Dance. It is unlikely that Venom would lose to a Xenophage, but Knull is a different story entirely - and I’m hoping thatSony has big plansfor the eldritch god figure down the line. Still, Venom’s incoming bouts with the Xenophage species should make for some incredibly brutal and nail-biting action sequences that will be a little more unique after two movies that saw Venom face similar-looking symbiote enemies.
