Olivia and Ethan got married in 2018, when both were 20 years old. The pair split in October 2023 after five years of marriage, and their divorce was finalized in February 2024. Ethan and Olivia’s marriage and its demise has been a major storyline throughout thesix seasons ofWelcome to Plathville. Olivia’s dynamics with the Plath family were a dramatic narrative, as was Ethan’s reaction to it and place in the fray.
Welcome to Plathville’s original premise was to follow the ultra-conservative Plath parents, Kim and Barry Plath, as they raised their 10 (one deceased and one not on the show) children in that environment. However, Barry and Kim divorced in 2022, and I’ve seen the show morph more towards following the Plath children and parents' love lives, as well as their ever-evolving family dynamics. The older Plath siblings, Ethan, Micah, Moriah, and Lydia, have been through several relationships on the show, butEthan’s love life has been the most tumultuous.
Why Did Ethan & Olivia Break Up?
There Were Several Layers
Ethan and Olivia’s young love was a huge focus of the first two seasons ofWelcome to Plathville. They navigated life outside of their family units for the first time, and settled into life without the rules of their parents. Olivia was already more independent and worldly than Ethan, as she is a wedding photographer. However, the pair did a lot of traveling together, and I watched Olivia be able to get Ethan out of his comfort zone and explore more as a result of them being together.
Where problems initially began were withOlivia having major disdain for Kim and Barry, and the way they brought their children up. Having experienced a similar upbringing within her own family, Olivia had outward negativity towards the Plath family structure. Moreover,TLC’s Olivia called Kim out for financially controlling Ethan early in their marriage, and using Ethan’s credit card for her own gain. When that allegation broke, the Plath children, save for Ethan, all sided with their mom in public social media displays, which I’m positive further divided Ethan and Olivia from the family.
The other element I know plagued Ethan and Olivia, was Olivia’s desire to grow as an individual and expand and deepen her value systems and ideas on her hopes for the future. In this progressing matrix,Ethan did not share Olivia’s same views. Ethan wanted Olivia to take a more traditional wife role of being a child rearer, home keeper, and matronly cook, a setup that Olivia wanted no part of. Ethan and Olivia’s marriage declined further as Ethan endeavored to be closer to his family once again. Ultimately, the pair could not reconcile their differences and sought a contentious divorce.

Throughout her time onWelcome to Plathville, Olivia was a notable outspoken figure.She was never afraid to voice her opinions, even if they were controversial and misaligned with her husband’s. Olivia had strong perceptions of Barry and Kim, and how they had control over their kids, and she felt the Plath children were also misguided and wrong in their opinions of her.
Online, I’ve noticed Olivia has also frequently been known to speak out against the Plaths, and how they categorized and treated her. Outside of her hot takes on the Plaths, Olivia has shared her opinions on a bevy of topics, from skincare to cocktail making to travel, but she has been prominently silent on all fronts sinceEthanpublically debuted his new girlfriend on his Instagram on July 04, 2025. In his hard launch post, Ethan praised his currently unidentified girlfriend.

Olivia’s last post that was aimed at weddings or travel was on June 12, 2025, the same day Ethan shared his post. It was a reflective post about 2024, and all the travel and professional development she had accomplished. She also gave a more inward look at how she’s evolved in resiliency and curiosity. Given the timing, I think Olivia prepared her end of the year post ahead of time, as she is always calculated in the things she says.
My outlook is that her post purposely left out anything about her love life or acknowledging anything related to Ethan. I feel it improbable that her New Year’s post was in regard to Ethan at all; the timing seemed coincidental. Noting her Instagram posting since New Year’s Eve,Olivia’s silence is speaking for her.I see her leading with a lack of reaction as a strategy of aloofness towards her ex-husband, who was clearly rubbing his happiness in Olivia’s face. It’s obvious Olivia observed Ethan’s post and felt a certain way.
I believe Olivia could truly be unbothered by Ethan’s new relationship, but I’m more of the belief she is purposely silent on social media about anything personal to push the narrative that she is unbothered about Ethan’s relationship. What’s more, Olivia’s typical opinionated posts have been missing from her feed, and I’m certain that move is reactionary after Ethan shared his new girlfriend. Olivia’s psychic, whom she visited inWelcome to Plathvilleseason 6, said Olivia would end up with Ethan, so I believeshe has more feelings than she is trying to present online.

Also inWelcome to Plathvilleseason 6, I watched Olivia rub her happiness in Ethan’s face by presenting her new boyfriend, Brendan, on the show. The pair were cringy in love, and even had matching tattoos. Brendan does not appear to be on social media, soit’s hard to say whether he and Olivia are still together, but Olivia does note that she lives in Washington D.C., where she moved to to be with Brendan.
Olivia’s social media silence may be at the behest of her boyfriend, who doesn’t want her to start drama, or the social media cold front could be all Olivia’s doing.
