Warning! This article contains spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again

Matt Murdock has returned in earnest inDaredevil: Born Againafter appearing in suchMCUinstallments asShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law, but with all the MCU’s time-jumps and general timeline confusion, it can be hard to pinpoint exactly when it takes place. Off the bat, it is immediately apparent thatDaredevil: Born Againtakes place entirely after the events ofthe originalDaredevilserieson Netflix - a point that was painfully punctuated byFoggy Nelson’s apparent deathin the first episode. This has set Matt Murdock down a familiar road as he once again relinquishes his vigilante persona.

It also securesDaredevil: Born Againas a continuation of the original series after the canonicity of the Defenders Saga was up for debate. This means that Matt Murdock and company were around during the monumental events ofAvengers: Infinity WarandSpider-Man: No Way Home, though whether these events took place before or afterDaredevil: Born Againis worth exploring. Thankfully,Daredevil: Born Againand the main cast’sextracurricular appearances offer a few indicators with which to discern when it takes place in the general MCU timeline.

How Daredevil: Born Again Fits Into Matt Murdock’s MCU Timeline

Daredevil: Born Again Is Matt Murdock’s Most Recent Outing

Matt Murdock has been keeping busy sinceDaredevilseason 3, which was released in 2018. Thanks tothe official MCU timelineon Disney+, it’s easy to discern thatthis season took place between the events ofDoctor StrangeandThor: Ragnarok, which ended moments before Thanos' invasion inAvengers: Infinity Warin 2018. This tracks with the general rule in earlier MCU productions where the year in which a movie takes place mirrors the year in which it was released. This was, of course, thrown into disarray withAvengers: Endgame’s five-year time-jump.

Late 2025 (Before Foggy’s Death), 2026–2027 (After Foggy’s death).

This is where timelines start to get confusing, asMatt Murdock next appears as Peter Parker’s lawyerinSpider-Man: No Way Home, which was released in 2021 but takes place in-universe in late 2024, starting immediately after Peter Parker’s summer trip inSpider-Man: Far From Home. Murdock’s next appearance is inShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which “Marvel Studios' The Marvel Cinematic Universe An Official Timeline” confirms takes place between 2024 and 2025. This shows that Matt is still operating as Daredevil around this time.

Daredevil is retired, therefore, throughout 2026.

Matt Murdock is also still operating as Daredevil during the five years between the Snap and the Blip, as his next appearance inEchois part of a flashback. Here, he fights Echo after Ronin - who operates during the same time period and relinquishes the mantle inAvengers: Endgame- kills her father. This means Daredevil’s appearance inEchotakes place between 2018 and 2023.Echo, also precedes Wilson Fisk’s successful run for mayor, and takes place five months afterHawkeye, placing that series in mid-2025, around the time Matt Murdock appears in LA and meets Walters.

Ronin is the moniker adopted by Hawkeye after his family are Snapped, and he embarks on a murderous rampage to rid the world of criminals.

DIsney+ placesDaredevil: Born AgainafterAgatha All Along, which takes place in-universe in the Fall of 2026, three years after the events ofWandaVision. Wilson Fisk’s New Year’s address to New York then tells us thatthe majority ofDaredevil: Born Againtakes place in early 2027. This also means that Foggy Nelson’s death, and Matt Murdock’s resignation from being Daredevil, occurs one year prior, in late 2025 -which would be soon after Murdock’s appearance inShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Daredevil is retired, therefore, throughout 2026.

How Daredevil: Born Again Fits Into The Larger MCU Timeline

Daredevil: Born Again Depicts The MCU’s Most Recent Events

Taking all the aforementioned into consideration, the events ofDaredevil: Born Againare contemporaneous withCaptain America: Brave New World, and depict the MCU’s present. It confirms that the “current” events of the MCU are occurring around two years ahead of the real-world present, and does not close the gap between the real-world and MCU timelines. This is largely thanks to the one-year time-jump following Foggy’s death, though it makes sense to keepDaredevil: Born Againin-line with the timelines of surrounding MCU productions.

Daredevil: Born Again Full Season 1 Review - I Refuse To Say “Marvel Is Back” Because I’m Not Sure It’s Ever Been This Good

7 years after Daredevil’s last season on Netflix, Charlie Cox’s masked vigilante is back and better than ever in the MCU.

This also means thatThunderboltsis likely to occur around the same time in the universe, if not in the future. Bucky Barnes was last seen inCaptain America: Brave New Worldrunning for congress, and will attain his position by the time ofThunderbolts.Daredevil: Born Againcould, therefore, have an impact on future MCU productions, with Wilson Fisk’s time as New York Mayor and his anti-vigilante laws, in particular, potentially affecting such New York-based superheroes as Spider-Man.
