Throughout each game mode ofWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, characters will often mention the ominous and imposing threat from the Chaos Gods, but without much explanation. While Tzeentch is the only Chaos God with a major influence over the story and enemies fought withinSpace Marine 2, they all make up a significant part of40Klore.

Not only are these otherworldly deities vital to the events of the franchise and the history leading up to the events ofSpace Marine 2, but they could affect future DLC content, be it cosmetics or entirely new enemies to battle. While it’s easy to view the Chaos Gods as omnipotent deities, they rely heavily on influencing humans and other species to do their bidding in their attempt to take over the material realm.

Nurgle, The Plague Lord

The God Of Death, Disease, Despair, And Decay

Originating from spiritual energy residing in the otherworldly warp dimension, the Chaos Gods are four unimaginable beings that stretch their will across the galaxy, corrupting the minds of man for their purposes. While each of the four Chaos Gods has a unique methodology, preferences, andappearance for their followers, they ultimately desire to tear open the fabric between dimensions, consuming the material realm and all its inhabitants.

The servants of the Chaos God Nurgle were one of the first Legions encountered by the Imperium of Man thousands of years beforeSpace Marine 2, ultimately kickstarting the events of the Horus Heresy. Relying on humanity’s desire to escape death and disease,Nurgle provides a warm embrace to relinquish these innate fears, granting immortality to any who worship him at a cost.

Followers of Nurgle are often easily identifiable from their greenish hues, sprouting limbs, or pockmarked skin, with the appearance of a walking and bloated corpse being a common sight on the battlefield.

The Horus Heresy was a civil war between the Emperor of Man and his son Horus, who aligned his allies and himself with the forces of Chaos, turning against the Imperium of Mankind.

Being able to revive from death would make Nurgle’s Daemons and followers a unique fighting experience, being great at ambushing players from below, or even turning fallen allies against them. The servants of Nurgle are even the primary antagonists in the ongoingWarhammer 40,000: Darktide, which recently received afree content updatewith new missions to experience.

While it’s likely the developers would rather explore new possibilities with unique enemy types and factions, there’s still a chance that assets from the 4 player co-op shooter could be ported over to the popularSpace Marinesequel.

Slaanesh, The Dark Prince

The God Of Pleasure, Pain, Excess, And Desire

Being the youngest of the four Chaos Gods by about 28 millennia, The Dark Prince Slaanesh doesn’t have as long of a history of interactions with the Imperium of Man as the rest. Brought into existence by the ancient Aeldari’s hubris during the peak of their civilization,Slaanesh pushed and fed off the lust and ambitions of the Aeldari, which would ultimately throw them to the brink of extinction.

Having created the circumstances of his own birth, Slaanesh celebrated the success by slaying billions of the Aeldari, creating the permanent rift between reality and the Warp, most commonly known as theEye of Terror.

What Is The Deathwatch & Why Was Titus In It Before Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2?

Taking place 200 years after the events of the first game, Titus has been busy working through the ranks of the Deathwatch before Space Marine 2.

The Chaotic Prince of Pleasure thrives off all kinds of passion and desire from humanity, feeding into the desires of man while simultaneously starving them. After worshiping and receiving gifts from Slaanesh, mortals will go to greater and greater lengths to satisfy their desires, culminating in barbarous actions and widespread debauchery.

Despite Slaanesh not having as many in-game appearances as the rest, his forces are some of the most unique in 40K, with chapters like the heretical Noise Marines spreading their song of death across the galaxy using over-the-top instrumental weapons.

Khorne, The Blood God

The God Of War, Murder, Rage, And Battle

Servants of the Blood God Khorne are likely the most instantly recognizable for casualWarhammerfans, with Khorne’s influence and promises of power being hard to resist for even the most loyal Space Marine, given their aggressive fighting styles. This popularity as the poster children of Chaos isn’t without reason, as their intimidating appearance and striking colors make them stand out from the crowd, showcasing their ferocity and bloodlust.

Unlike the other Chaos Gods, Khorne despises trickery and sorcery, simply relying on good old-fashioned violence and murder to destroy anyone unfortunate enough to end up in his path. With Tzeentch bringing about such large-scale destruction inSpace Marine 2alongside the massive loss of life from the Tyranid invasion, it wouldn’t be a far stretch for a legion of Khorne-worshipping Chaos Marines to join the fight in a futureSpace Marine 2DLC.

This Chaos legion would charge straight into battle to unleash devastating flurries of melee attacks and heavy firepower.

Rather than using sorcery and deception, this Chaos legion would charge straight into battle to unleash devastating flurries of melee attacks and heavy firepower from various Chaos Marines, Lesser Daemons, or even a dreaded greater Daemon, such as the terrifying winged Bloodthirster.

Space Marine 2’s popularity has given many players hope for a sequel to tackle these other legions, or even the franchise’s most ancient xenos threat.

WithKhornes Chaos Marine’s being one of the first seen in promotional images forSpace Marine 2’seternal war mode, some fans have speculated it could be a favorable choice for future DLC, or even a sequel. While it’s still unconfirmed if Focus Entertainment plans on including new enemy factions on top of the current Tyranid and Worshipers of Tzeentch,Space Marine 2’s popularity has given many players hope for a sequel to tackle these other legions, or even the franchise’s mostancient xenos threat.

Tzeentch, The Changer Of Ways

The God Of Change, Sorcery, Fate, And Hope.

The Chaos God Tzeentch is by far the most influential force in theSpace Marinefranchise, being the primary driving force behind the story of both games. Living up to his title as the Changer of Ways,Tzeentch thrives off plotting and deception, creating grand plans and spinning webs of lies so far-reaching they would drive any mortal that attempted to understand them insane.Preying on humans that thirst for knowledge or live in deception, Tzeentch is one of the more unseen threats inWarhammer 40,000, relying on powerful sorcery and trickery to complete his grand plans.

Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 DLC Desperately Needs To Fix This Story Issue

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 feels like an almost flawless experience, but it has one major glaring issue with its story that DLC must address.

Already existing withinSpace Marine 2, players can be sure to expect more Daemons or followers of Tzeentch in future updates and are the likely candidates for the next major DLC, offering new daemons and traitors to destroy.Luckily for players, there’s a vast array of bothTyranid and Chaos enemiesthat could be added toSpace Marine 2,for regular foes and boss battles alike. These potential enemies could not only help further expandSpace Marine 2’sstoryline, but can even more engaging and memorable battles, much like the recent Hierophant Bio-Titan.
