The Western crime dramaLongmirepresented plenty of murder mysteries during its six-season run, but one in particular was personal for Sheriff Walt Longmire (Robert Taylor) of Absaroka County, Wyoming. Beginning in season 5 and continuing intoLongmire’s sixth and final season, Walt finds himself in some serious legal trouble. After real estate developer Barlow Connally (Gerald McRaney) is shot and killed by Walt (an incident purposely orchestrated by Barlow), Barlow’s estate files a wrongful death civil suit against him.
Just when things are looking dire for the sheriff, the lawyer for the plaintiff, a man namedTucker Baggett(Brett Rice), is shot and killed. Naturally, the police like Walt for the murder, but who really killed Tucker and why? With Longmire on the case, the real culprit is a shock to everyone.

Baggett Was Murdered For Refusing To Drop The Lawsuit Against Walt
In season 6 episode 5, “Burned Up My Tears” the legal proceedings are in full swing, but things take a turn when Tucker’s body is found on the reservation. With the help of his mentor and Barlow’s brother, Lucian (Peter Weller),Walt digs into Tucker’s murder only to discover that it was Lucian who killed him. Lucian confesses to Tucker’s murder, stating that he went to Tucker to ask him to drop the lawsuit against Walt. When Tucker refused, stating that the reason he was pursuing the case was simply because he could, Lucian fatally shot him in the chest.
Lucian actor Peter Weller directed five episodes ofLongmire, including “Burned Up My Tears”.

Preferring to die rather than be arrested, Lucian tries to get Walt to shoot him. When Walt refuses,Lucian steps off of a cliff to his death. Lucian’s death obviously hits Walt hard, and he considers retiring as sheriff. Luckily, Lucian had left a note behind that exonerates Walt of Tucker’s death, and the civil suit is also dropped. In theLongmireseries finale, Walt does indeed decide to retire, and encourages his daughter, Cady (Cassidy Freeman), to take his place as sheriff.
