Since Thanos is one of the standout characters inSquid Gameseason 2, it is shocking when he is killed. After winning the games at the end ofSquid Gameseason 1, Gi-hun returns to the games in the second season of the hit Netflix show. InSquid Gameseason 2, Gi-hun is deadset on putting an end to the games. To do this, he needs to convince the other players that they need to vote to leave the island. However, while somecharacters inSquid Gameseason 2agree with Gi-hun, several characters want to continue playing the games.

While most of the characters who vote to continue the games do so to make more money, Thanos actually seems to get some enjoyment out of the games. This aspect of Thanos makes him one of the most interestingnew characters inSquid Gameseason 2. During all thegames inSquid Gameseason 2, Thanos can be seen dancing and toying with the other players. This proves that he is either extremely confident he will win all the games, or just doesn’t really value his life that much. Regardless,it is shocking when Thanos is killed inSquid Gameseason 2.

Thanos Would Not Have Fit Into Squid Game Season 2’s Finale

Thanos Probably Wouldn’t Have Joined Gi-hun’s Rebellion In Squid Game Season 2

Squid Game Cut One Of Thanos’ Best Scenes (At Least We Can Watch It Now)

Squid Game features an eclectic cast of characters who all shine in their own way, but one of the most popular, Thanos, had a key scene removed.

The rivalry between Thanos and Myung-gi culminates at the end ofSquid Gameseason 2, episode 6. At the end of this episode, a fight breaks out in the bathroom, which leads to Thanos strangling Myung-gi. However,Myung-gi is actually hiding a fork in his pocket, and ends up stabbing Thanos in the neck, which results in his death. This death scene is one of the most shocking moments inSquid Gameseason 2, since Thanos seemed like he could potentially be a major character in the series.

However, killing Thanos slightly earlier than expected was probably the right move, as he wouldn’t have really fit into Gi-hun’s rebellion at theend ofSquid Gameseason 2. Since Thanos wanted to continue playing the games,he probably wouldn’t have been too eager to join Gi-hun’s rebellion. Therefore, if he was still alive for the season finale, he just would’ve been doing nothing in the player’s room, which doesn’t really fit with his character. Since Thanos is someone that stands out a lot, him sitting around and doing nothing would have negatively impacted his character.

Thanos Was A Comic Relief That Squid Game Season 3 Won’t Have The Time For

Squid Game Season 3 Will Tell A Very Dark Story

Even Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of the series, admitted thatThanos' death inSquid Gameseason 2was very sudden. Dong-Hyuk actually revealed that Thanos is one of his favorite characters in the show, but stands by his decision to kill him off when he did. WhileThanos added some comic relief throughout the first half ofSquid Gameseason 2, he clearly wasn’t ever meant to play a major role in the future of the series. However, even though Thanos has been killed, Dong-hyuk teased that his impact will still be felt inSquid Gameseason 3. He said:

As for Thanos… he’s one of my favorite characters, too! I believe that was the right time to see him off. Although I will admit, I do think the death was sudden. It was very intense, which was the right way at just the right time for him to go. The way he leaves the story, if you watch until the third season, it will almost feel as if he’s still there in some ways in terms of how he affects the plot.

While there are some moments of levity inSquid Gameseason 2, the final two episodes of the season are very dark. This needed to be the case, as viewers are meant to feel hopeless when Jung-bae is executed at the end of the season. Therefore,Thanos' more stress-free approach to the games wouldn’t have fit well in the season 2 finaleand theupcomingSquid Gameseason 3. Since Thanos was always a more comedic character, it was actually smart of Dong-hyuk to kill him when he did inSquid Gameseason 2.

Thanos’ Presence Will Still Be Felt In Squid Game Season 3

Thanos May Still Appear In Squid Game Season 3

Even though Thanos was killed earlier than expected inSquid Gameseason 2, he has become one of the most popular characters in the series. Therefore,it is good that Dong-hyuk intends for Thanos' presence to be felt inSquid Gameseason 3. While it is currently unclear what Dong-hyuk means when he claims Thanos will impact the show’s third season, a theory suggests thatThanos will return as a hallucination inSquid Gameseason 3.

If Nam-gyu continues to take Thanos' pills, then it’s possible that he will see Thanos through hallucinations.

This theory may sound far-fetched at first, but actually makes sense sinceNam-gyu likely took Thanos' drugs after he was killed in the bathroom. Even though Thanos has a more flashy persona inSquid Gameseason 2, Nam-gyu is arguably more sinister than him. Therefore, Nam-gyu could become even more of a villain in season 3. If Nam-gyu continues to take Thanos' pills, then it’s possible that he will see Thanos through hallucinations. This would be the perfect way to bring Thanos back forSquid Gameseason 3, and could lead to a dramatic showdown between Nam-gyu and Myung-gi.

Despite His Early Death, Thanos Is Already One Of Squid Game’s Best Characters

Thanos' Early Death Hasn’t Affected His Popularity

Since Thanos dies quite early inSquid Gameseason 2, he is obviously not that important in the larger narrative of the season. In fact,Thanos barely has any interactions with either Gi-hun or In-ho, two of the series' most important characters. However, despite this, Thanos is still undeniably one of the best characters inSquid Game. Thanos' impact on the show, despite only appearing in six episodes, proves how unique the character is and how good T.O.P was in the role.

Squid Game Season 3 Bringing Back The Show’s Most Controversial Characters Means It Will Have To Address A Wild Fan Theory

Squid Game season 3 will see the return of the show’s most controversial characters, and that means one theory will need to be addressed.

OtherSquid Gamecharacters that were introduced in season 2, such as Jun-hee and Hyun-ju, will definitely be more important to the larger narrative of the series. These characters and many more will be able to undergo more development in the show’s third season. Meanwhile,Thanos was only in six episodes inSquid Gameseason 2 and is arguably now the most well-known character from the series. This proves how much of an impact Thanos had onSquid Gameseason 2, despite dying earlier than expected.
