Warning! SPOILERS ahead for Yellowjackets season 3, episode 6!Since the pilot episode,Yellowjacketshas been drawing comparisons to the supernatural mystery plane crash showLost, and the latest season 3 twist makes their similarities even stronger. LikeLost,Yellowjacketskicks off with a mysterious plane crash, leaving a group of survivors stranded in a remote location while contending with potentially supernatural entities around them. However,Yellowjackets’ more horror-leaning, cannibalistic teenage story largely focuses on the desperation to survive and the loss of humanity while stranded, whereasLostprioritizes redemption for the survivors’ pasts and actions back home.

Still, asYellowjackets’ wilderness timelinehas progressed, the Showtime series has more directly mirrored some of the notable survival-based and supernatural mystery plot points from theLostcharacters’ time on the island. For instance, Lottie’s connection to the Wilderness is similar to Walt’s link to the island’s supernatural elements, both have characters with premonitions about future events, and both explore constantly shifting loyalties and leadership among the survivors. Now, three seasons in,Yellowjacketsisrepeating a massive series-changing twist that significantly alteredLost’s island conflicts toward the end of season 1.

The Teens Aren’t The Only Ones In the Wilderness

At the end ofYellowjacketsseason 3, episode 6, the teens’ sense of reality is shattered when two strangers appear during their feast of the recently-deceased Coach Ben. While there had been signs of life via the abandoned cabin and plane, references to Javi’s “friend,” and thebox of survival supplies Ben found, this marks the first time since the crash that the teens have seen another living person. By suddenly revealing that other people are out in the wilderness,Yellowjacketsis implementing a story twist similar toLost’s reveal about the “Others”on the island from season 1.

Throughout the majority ofLostseason 1, the plane crash survivors believed they were alone on the island, or that any other groups might be too far for them to reach. However,Lostlater revealed that Others had been living on the islandfor decades before their arrival, with Ethan having infiltrated the survivors to gather information and perform research. The discovery of the Others felt like the true beginning ofLost’s overarching story pertaining to the island’s true nature, sothe arrival of new people inYellowjacketsis bound to similarly upend the existing dynamics and knowledge about the wilderness.

Yellowjackets Will Already Inevitably Repeat A Harsh Reality About Lost’s Others

Neither Discovery Leads To Imminent Rescue

The arrival of new people would seemingly be the answer to all the teens’ prayers inYellowjackets, as it would be the greatest indicator of their potential rescue. However, that also would have been the hope for thesurvivors of Oceanic Flight 815when discovering other people were on the island. While that would be true – for a time – for Walt and Michael in season 2,it would take years and even more groups of people coming toLost’s island before a bigger group of survivors finally went home.

Yellowjackets Season 3 Episode 1 Acknowledges Another Harsh Awakening For The Teens After A Year In The Wilderness

Yellowjackets season 3 picks up with the girls in better spirits, but their celebration in episode 1 drives home a bleak reality for the survivors.

Since we already know thatYellowjackets’ present-day survivorsspent 19 months in the wilderness before being rescued,we know that these new strangers won’t be their answer to going back home. Despite finding new people, the teens appear to still have a little less than a year left in the wilderness before rescue. As such, questions remain about whether these strangers have always been in the wilderness, if they also crashed and became stranded, what their intentions are with the teens, and whetherYellowjackets’ teens would even accept their help after seeing their cannibal sacrifice ritual.
