The commercials center around a fictional town, called Fansville, USA, which looks suspiciously like Dr. Pepper’s in Texas. But, make no mistake, Fansville is entirely made up, and serves as ahilarious parody of the college football industry.
Meant to capitalize onName, Image, Likeness, (NIL) laws, each ad features a college football player. But, it’s not just current ballplayers living in Fansville, asthe ad campaign also features football legend, Brian “the Boz” Bosworth.Bosworth was an all-American Sooner at the University of Oklahoma from 1984-1986, and a two-time winner of the Dick Butkus Award. The linebacker went on the play three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks before an injury ended his athletic career. But it certainly didn’t end his acting one, as Bosworth is the star of Dr. Pepper’s Fansville ads.

10 Most Iconic Athlete Cameos In Television Ads
From Michael Jordan to Serena Williams, there have been many great television ads featuring several athletes. But which ones are the most memorable?
Whenever the sheriff is on-screen, he is usually smiling, and Bosworth’s exaggerated movements and expressions make it clear that he is having a blast on screen, which in turn, makes the ad more fun to watch. It’s no secret that Bosworth loves playing the sheriff, though. In an interview withThe Oklahoman, he spoke about the commercials, saying (viaSports Business Journal),

“The writing is brilliant. Tongue in cheek, it touches all the subjects, there’s nothing that’s off limits. They don’t take themselves too seriously.”
Oklahoma and Texas' Red River Rivalry lives on through the Fansville ads, as the seventh season of the Dr. Pepper commercials features University of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewersplaying Bosworth’s deputy. In his debut, Ewers pokes fun at Bosworth’s college career, by saying the sheriff needs “backup” to catch the crook. The joke is a clever jab at Bosworth’s reliance on his teammates while he was a player.
Apparently,Bosworth wasn’t told that Ewers would be his deputy until just before the cameras rolled. But, every ad is met with good humor because it’s clear that Bosworth loves eating up his role (viaThe Oklahoman). Of working with an athlete from a rival team, Bosworth said,
“We had fun together. It was a great opportunity. He’s a great kid. A great competitor. But yeah, it took all I could to be nice to him for the first few minutes, then I realized he’s too nice a kid not to be nice too … I just wish he was wearing Crimson and Cream.”
