One ofStardew Valley’s most colorful characters is the leader of Pelican Town, Mayor Lewis. While most players might know of his antics from the early game quest of recovering his embarrassingly bright purple and private shorts from Marnie’s bedroom, there’s actuallyanother item in the game that players can find to embarrass the mayor. Like the shorts, finding this item and placing it in a public place will elicit a special reaction from Mayor Lewis.

The mayor’s other special item, besides his shorts, isa life-sized solid gold statue of himself. This golden idol-like figure can only be obtained by completing a secret note side quest, which isn’t available until at least the Winter of Year One. Similar to what happens when players use his infamous purple shorts in their Stardew Valley Fair grange display, Mayor Lewis will bribe the player with angry dialogue about keeping his private affairs away from the public.

One Secret Note Leads To The Mayor’s Statue

A Golden Idol For A Golden Mayor

Secret notes are a special type of quest that players can only unlock in their first winter, as long as they walk along the path from the bus stop to the farm before 4 pm. After seeing a mysterious figure run away, the quest ‘A Winter Mystery’ will be available. Once completed, this questallows players to find secret notes throughout different types of gameplay, like while mining, cutting down trees, killing monsters, and fishing.

Secret notes were added in update 1.3.27, over two years after the game’s release in 2016.

The secret note thatleads to Mayor Lewis’s special golden statue is number 19, so players will need to find that note before they’re able to unlock the mayor’s special statue. The puzzle in the secret note shows 1 Willow Lane, the home of Sam, Jodi, Vincent, and Kent, alongside green arrows pointing either up, down, left, or right. To solve the puzzle, players must stand in front of the blue house and go in the directions indicated by the letter until they can no longer move that way.

Stardew Valley: How To Unlock The Mayor’s Basement (& What’s In There)

The 1.6 update of Stardew Valley adds some hidden content, like a basement in the Mayor’s house you’re able to unlock to find a surprising and useful item.

For example, the first direction is left, so players must go left until they can’t go anymore and then go the next direction until they can’t move that way anymore. Once players have followed all the directions in the note, they’ll end up behind Mayor Lewis’s house, where they can click on the ground and get the special golden statue.

Placing The Statue In Town Will Garner A Special Letter

Bribery Seems To Work In The Valley

This special statue has more secrets to offer than just its mere existence. Once players have the statue in hand, they can keep it on their farm for personal purposes or place it anywhere in the middle of Pelican Town for everyone to see. If the gold statue is placed somewhere, it won’t be destroyed by the townspeople’s walking paths; it will go missing the next day.In its place will bea rotten plant, alongside an unsigned letter containing 750g in the mail, which is a similar bribe to the one he gives the player after theyplace his shorts inStardew Valley’s grange display.

10 Things That Make No Sense In Stardew Valley

The world of Stardew Valley includes a lot of otherworldly elements, but certain aspects of the game still don’t make sense even in a fantasy setting.

The letter will say, “In the future, I’d appreciate it very much if you refrained from placing my PRIVATE belongings in town for all to see! I’m very displeased! Take this money and never speak of my ‘project’ to anyone.”After the statue has moved,it can be found either in the mayor’s bedroom or, interestingly, in Marnie’s bedroom. While it would be hilarious to think that perhaps the secret statue wasn’t made by the mayor but instead by an adoring citizen of Pelican Town, the in-game description of the item states that it is, in fact, the mayor’s secret project.

1.6 Allows Players To Get The Statue Back

Never Miss A Day With This Statue

While the thought of losing the mayor’s special statue could be devastating, that possibility is thankfully less likely with patch 1.6.9 in November 2024. In that update, the Lost Item Shop was added toStardew Valley, allowingplayers to buy back very special items they may have lostfrom passing out in the mines or other problematic circumstances.

If players have lost the mayor’s statue that way, they cango to the Lost Item Shop in the Secret Woods and buy it backagain for 10,000g. That price may seem steep, but having a way to alwayshonor and love Mayor Lewis inStardew Valleyon the farm is priceless.
